Under the leadership and auspices of King Khalid Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, the First International Conference on Islamic Economics was organised by King Abdul Aziz University and held in Makkah Al-Mukarramah on Safar 1396 / February 1976.
This was a great opportunity for hundreds of Muslim Economists and Shari'ah Scholars to come together from all over the world. The Conference recommended that the University establish an International Centre for research in Islamic Economics. The Supreme Council of the University agreed to this recommendation and the Centre was established in 1397AH (1977 AD).
