SEMINARS AND CONFERENCES

Seminars and Conferences were among the basic methods adopted to consolidate and promote research in Islamic Economics. Beyond the conference of Makkah Almukarramah mentioned earlier, two international conferences were held: one in Islamabad (1983) and the other in Kuala Lumpur (1992), in collaboration with other sponsoring organizations. Four international seminars were held in 1978, 1981, 1985 and 2000 discussing several theme subjects in Islamic Economics. A number of seminars were held in the Centre with the participation of the Economics and Islamic economics departments in Saudi Arabia universities and colleges, discussing undergraduate and graduate curricula related to Islamic Economics the last of which was held in 2001 titled Teaching Money and Banking.

Several workshops had also been held, such as the one on the Islamization of Banks in Pakistan in 1988, in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank. Recently the Centre had managed to host the conference on “Cooperation between the Private Sector and the Government in the Financing of Projects” in 1420H/ 2000G.

Last but not least, a weekly dialogue is held every Wednesday in the Centre and is attended by the interested faculty from the university departments together with the Centre’s researchers wherein a contemporary research subject is discussed.
